Quakecon 2009
Quakecon 2009 has come and gone already and I thought I’d post some pictures from the event and post a bit about what all went on this year.
This year Quakecon had over 7,000 visitors and 3,000 people bring their computers to game in the LAN area. Jennifer and I headed down to meet up with our usual buddies to game and have some fun at the event. The very popular and upcoming games BRINK and RAGE were shown to the public for the first time at Quakecon 2009 and I was lucky enough to see both of these presentations and all I will say is those two games are on my get list. We were asked not to take any pictures of either BRINK or RAGE but I tweeted while I was in these presentations and here is what I had to say:
Brink:

When the actual demo started, where one of the game developers takes stage to play the game, the screens on the stage turned to what looked like this very high quality rendered screenshot of the game that publishers use for press material and usually look a bit better than the game because they have been enhanced but then the screen started to move and I along with the rest of the crowd just went awhhh, this game looks insanely amazing!

Nvidia had people come up on stage and do things to get free schwag. These two people had to eat crickets, minos, and worms for some free stuff:

What is Social Media?
I came across this interesting keynote presentation and it pretty much answers the question that I’ve been asked by some people. What is social media? A lot of people use it and don’t know that they are but this keynote explains what it is and why it is a big deal. So if you were one of those that asked me or you are just curious, take a look.
Summaries of what has been going on
It has been awhile since I’ve really taken the time to write a post, most of my post have just been photo blogging. So I figured I’d take some time to post some short summaries of what has been going on in the world of Justin Sanchez.
Here we go…
After months and months of searching for a job in my field of study and passion I finally found an awesome job. I am the Social\New Media Producer at Sparkle Internet Image Solutions. I love my job and the people I work with are awesome and fun.
In the past two days Jennifer and I have been moving to our new apartment townhome which we are loving but we don’t love the moving part. We have everything moved (thanks to my dad and mom for all the help packing and moving stuff!) but now we must unbox everything and put things up.
Jennifer started cake classes a few months back and she has been cranking out cakes almost weekly and she makes some impressive cakes. She created a business called Jinxy Cakes and as I write this she is down stairs working on a cake for a competition.
A couple months back Tux (our cat) gave us a pretty bad scare when he seemed to be in a lot of pain. He showed symptoms of a bladder infection (thank you Google!), which is deadly if not treated in time (hours). We took Tux to the pet ER (2am) and that’s what it was but it had not progressed to the point where he was going to need surgery. So he got some medicine and all was okay.
Jinxy our other cat seems to think she is a dog more and more each day. She sleeps near my feet in the office and follows me from room to room. If I go to the bathroom she sets outside the door, haha. If she lays somewhere else she lays somewhere were she has line of sight to me. Jennifer gets jealous about it all, haha.
Yes I talk about my cat’s often, they are like kids to me and it’s fine if you think that is a silly thing to say. I am a pet lover.

Silly interview with Jennifer about her first cake from her cake decorating class that she is taking.

Hockey, just might be my new favorite thing.
I probably never would have gone to a hockey game but I was extremely bored with nothing else to do and my friend had called me to see if I’d like to go so I did and it was. . . awesome. Hockey on TV is a snooze fest most of the times so I didn’t think it would be that great in person but I was wrong.
The sounds of players getting checked against the wall in the arena and the hockey puck being slapped around just sounded so awesome and who doesn’t like to see the possibility of a hockey fight, which almost happened. In hockey you can’t just get the puck stand there for a bit and then pass the puck, if you do that you are going to get checked so hockey is just action packed from the start. I didn’t know much of anything about the rules but I still had a blast and I’d highly suggest anyone try going to a hockey game at least once.
A friend’s new website
A good friend of mine just started up his own site after much nagging on my part on and off over the years. He is still in the process of getting things situated at JarrettFranklin.com but he is still keeping fresh content on the site during the process, so check it out.
Super Bowl stomach ache
Super Bowl day Jen made a variety of snacks and I ate to much and drank to much. Isn’t that what you are suppose to do on the day of the Super Bowl? Here some pictures and video of what we had.
