Well Jennifer and I are off to Quakecon again today or “nerd fest” as some of my family might say. Quakcon yeah it has some really nerdy people there but it’s really not what you would think. It must not be that much of a nerdfest or Jennifer would not be wanting to go back this year. Anyways for those that don’t know what Quakecon is, it is a huge computer gaming conference. Here is how the Quakecon.org website explains it:
QuakeCon is a free convention held every year in the Dallas, TX area. Thousands of computer gamers from all over the world make the pilgrimage to play with their friends on a giant gaming network, see the latest cool technology, and compete in a world-class tournament. Though mostly volunteer run, QuakeCon is sponsored by id Software, makers of the immensely popular Doom, Quake, and Wolfenstein series of games. While the convention celebrates these games in particular, it is really a huge party for fans of computer gaming in general… from the hobbyist to the hardcore .
Imagine a room with rows and rows of computers full of people playing all kinds of multiplayer games. Noise, explosions, people yelling at each other and having a great time! The next room is full of booths where companies showcase their newest and upcoming games and hardware. Close by is the main tournament, where hundreds of the most talented players from around the world compete for cash and prizes. In other rooms there are conferences with people talking about the future of gaming and other topics of interest to the gaming community.
Last year was my first year to go after having wanted to go for many years and well, it was a blast. This year me and my team are releasing our teams third Quake 3 tricking video with RadioITG at the event. We may also be getting interviewed. We even have a team member flying in from the Netherlands to come to the event and hang out with us. (You can read more about this, here)
We will be heading out today between 4-5 PM if all goes as planned and probably get to Quakecon around 7-8 PM. I plan to keep the site posted with news and pictures from the event whenever possible so keep checking back this week. I’ll probably roll my Twitter updates to my blog so I can post to the site from my phone about whats going on. If I can get Jennifer to, I’ll have her make some updates to this site as well. You can also check out the Quakecon.org website during the week to see videos and news of what all is going on at the event too. And I’ll link my teams website when we post news there during the event that you might want to check out.
Anyways thats all for now, time to pack.
